Meet Krista

After relocating from Toronto to Victoria in 2019, Krista started Krista Madani Consulting Ltd to share her passion and expertise in management, operations and decision writing with professional and health regulators across Canada.

Krista believes in leaving a program better than you found it, as shown by her successful track record. She has extensive public sector experience in developing programs, decisions and writing for the public, staff and government audiences.

Krista started her career in the Government of Canada and has been a public sector manager since 2007. She held progressive management roles in the Ontario Public Service, including within the professional regulatory part of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities’ apprenticeship and trade certification program. In 2017, Krista moved to the broader public sector to continue her work in the professional regulatory sector with the College of Midwives of Ontario as its manager of professional conduct.

As a Manager in the Apprenticeship and Trades Certification program in the Ontario Public Service, Krista managed a full range of activities related to Ontario’s regulatory requirements for trades. She initially managed the public-facing operations, including registration and renewal, certification examinations, and apprenticeship in-school training. Later promoted to head office, Krista led the development of provincial operational policies and procedures. In this role, Krista led a team of consultants who analyzed complex regional issues and developed recommendations to establish fair and transparent procedures. Finally, as a program development manager, Krista oversaw the development of resources for both internal and external recipients to help them understand the regulatory requirements. In this capacity, Krista sharpened her project management skills by leading a team of project leads. She coordinated the development of project management tools and monitored the progress of highly complex and sensitive program renewal and transformation initiatives.

At the College of Midwives of Ontario, Krista managed the Professional Conduct department, including staff and committee members. She guided others in interpreting relevant legislation, regulations, and policies in this role. Krista also wrote technical reports, including committee decisions and reasons. Krista reviewed and streamlined the College’s delivery to handle increased activity demand and led the development of procedures, policies, guides and communications for staff, the public, and registrants.

At Krista Madani Consulting Ltd, Krista applies her public sector experience and expertise to support a regulator in enhancing its program delivery. She is passionate about drafting well-written decisions that provide clear, transparent, understandable, and justified reasons, delivered within a regulator’s timeline. Since 2019, Krista Madani Consulting Ltd has helped health professional regulatory bodies in Ontario and British Columbia with their decision-writing needs for their Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee, Registration Committee and Quality Assurance Committee.

Krista holds degrees in psychology and communications as well as a postgraduate diploma in behavioural science.

Why You Need a Consultant

A regulator seeks a consultant’s assistance when it requires additional personnel and resources to manage heavy workloads or specific projects.

A consultant provides a regulator with the resources and expertise to develop ongoing policy and operational improvements, ensuring the regulator remains responsive to the public, registrants and ministry’s demands. A consultant concentrates on the more complex tasks of developing policies and written materials to enhance the regulator’s promptness and transparency for the public and registrants.

A decision-writing consultant supports professional misconduct, registration and quality assurance departments on an ongoing or backup basis and provides the niche expertise required to prepare well-written decisions.

A consultant completes the project and service independently, allowing a regulator’s management team to focus on other essential program areas.
